Thomas F. Fuller, JES Technical Editor, and Sean R. Bishop, Ainara Aguadero, and Xingbo Liu, Guest Editors,
invite you to submit to the
JES Focus Issue:
Oxygen Reduction and Evolution Reactions for High Temperature Energy Conversion and Storage
Submission Deadline | March 20, 2017
 |
Sluggish oxygen reduction (ORR) and evolution reactions (OER) are key barriers to high temperature energy conversion and storage, such as in solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells. Composition, crystal structure, and morphology are all key factors that impact these reactions. Furthermore, thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the surface, where ORR and OER take place, are increasingly found to deviate from the bulk. These investigations are aided by advanced processing and characterization techniques. This focus issue of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society seeks to highlight the latest research in understanding fundamental mechanisms of ORR and OER, and highlight new materials and concepts to achieve both greater performance and long-term durability. ORR and OER related topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel operando and in situ techniques
- Computational and experimental investigations
- Modeling across multiple length scales
- Surface spectroscopy
- Microstructural effects and electrode reconstruction
- Long-term performance and degradation mechanisms
- Performance-composition-structure relationships
- Electrochemomechanical coupling
- Defect equilibria

All papers published in this focus issue will be OPEN ACCESS at NO COST to the authors!*
